In Network Marketing, This Needs to Take Up 90% of Your Time

It’s very easy for Network Marketers to stay busy. Activity really isn’t too hard, at least not for me. The problem usually comes when I focus on the tasks that don’t really push me that much closer to my goals.

In Network Marketing, 90% of your time needs to be focused on IPA’s.

If you have no idea what IPA’s are, it’s really quite simple. IPA stands for…

Income Producing Activities.

I know what you’re probably thinking right now. “I work my business every day. That’s what 100% of my focus is on, working my business.”

Your line of thinking is exactly where mine was when I first started my business. I thought that as long as I was doing something to build my business every day then I was good, and eventually I would make some substantial residual income.


There’s a huge difference between doing something to build your business and focusing your time on income producing activities.

There are hundreds of things you can do to make yourself look busy in Network Marketing. Unfortunately, there are very few activities that will actually get you paid.

It’s really very simple. IPA’s are the following:

-signing up customers

-enrolling distributors

-directly helping someone in your downline sign up or enroll someone

-calling a prospect to invite them to take a look at your business

-sending your prospect an article or link to help them make a decision about what they saw

-completing a 3-way call with your prospect

-taking prospects to meetings

There’s a significantly longer list of things that are not in the income-producing activity category. Here are just a few common examples of what IPA’s are NOT:

-posting on social media

-any kind of personal development

-having a coaching conversation with your upline

-going to a training

-listening to a conference call

-watching a webinar

-reformatting your written list

Now, don’t get me wrong, those things are important, very important. However, they don’t make you any money. The idea is to focus on the tasks that actually do make you money the majority of the time.

As a Network Marketing professional, you get paid to do two extremely simple things. Sign up customers and distributors and help other people do the same. Invitation. Presentation. Validation. That’s what gets you paid.

In your business, Income Producing Activities need to be 90% of your focus.

If your percentage is flipped and you’re only spending 10% of your time on IPA’s, your business is going to grow extremely slow, if at all. Focus your daily method of operation (DMO) on IPA’s and I guarantee that you will see a substantial burst of growth in your team, your income, and your business.
