Should You Be Going Door to Door With Your MLM Business?

In Network Marketing this is a common question that comes up fairly often. Should you take part in door to door MLM? The answer is fairly simple but let me break it down for you.

There’s an entity called the Direct Selling Association or the DSA. They’re the industry watchdog that ensures companies and reps abide by a code of ethics. Their job is to make sure that MLM companies and reps put integrity and character before a bottom line.

There is a year-long application and vetting process that MLM companies must embark on before they can be considered for membership. If your company wants to be respected in the industry then they need to be a good standing member with the DSA.

I bring up the DSA to say that they frown on door to door sales. From what I can tell it is not a direct violation of their code of ethics. But, from where I sit in this industry, it’s highly frowned upon.

Door to door MLM also gives people a sour taste in their mouths about the industry. It creates a sales pitch type of atmosphere rather than a relationship leveraging environment.

Our industry is called Network Marketing for a reason. The focus is to market your product, service, or opportunity to your already established network, not strangers. When you go door to door your leveraging a sales pitch and a strangers’ willingness to listen.

The most important reason you shouldn’t be going door to door with your business is because it’s not duplicatable. You may be great at pitching people on their doorstep. However, I can assure you that the majority of people aren’t. It’s not what works in Network Marketing but what duplicates.

If you are running out of prospects, go meet new people, establish a relationship and then fill a need. There are plenty of people in your sphere of influence that have unfilled needs in their lives. There’s no need to go door to door in the hopes that you’ll make a sale or find a business partner. It’s extremely rare.
